La Manuela Ranch

What better to do on ones first day in Colombia but to head out to La Manuela Ranch – Escobar’s infamous summer house for some paintball.   The ranch is in a beautiful area of Guatape, and on our journey out we saw rolling green mountains with large estates as well as smaller Colombia towns.  The property itself if fairly well preserved despite being ripped apart by a bomb in 1993 by Los Pepes, a vigilante group.   The hacienda is not promoted as a tourist destination given the sensitivity surrounding glorification of Escobar and his activities, but we found a tour group who even arranged for us to ride into the compound on the top of jeeps as his soldiers would have.
